the session on 6th of azar started with a listening from ted talks. it was primarily about the educational system of america and the problems black people have with that. you asked us to take note and share our understandings of the listening with our partners and then say what we had gotten from it. in fact you persuaded us to express ourselves and involved each student in that activity. i personally think your function as the main factor in keeping the whole cl active by methods like that, is an important milestone in improving the cl just like what the students expected. silent students are not necessarily the inactive ones. please consider this point. thanks a bunch

taking up all of the talking time, in an esl cl es, the most important factor for the students is to speak english. and teachers speak most of the time so there is no any chance for the students to practice their speaking skills. those who are new to to esl teaching often make this very crucial mistake, they spend too much time on speaking because they are overenthusiastic to share their knowledge. but, how to find the right balance between students talking time and teacher talking time? as general rule of thumb, students should speak for 70% of the cl time, while teacher speak for the remaining 30%. these percentages could be changed for students who are in the begginer level (50-50), or for those students who are in a nced level (90-10). this means that in most cases, your participation

this is my ejournal on two session we had. at first session two of the students gave presentation on gtm. gtm is based on translation and i realized that almost all of my teachers were using this method during my education process. i’m completely familiar with this method and i think using it wouldn’t help students to reach appreciable level in english. of course sometimes you need translation in cl ... . but to use this method as the dominant style wouldn’t do any good. about the presentation; i think it was quite informative. but i didn’t feel effective cooperation between the two presenters. it was like each one had memorized their own share of the subject. also most of the times they were reading from the book, i understand that sometimes you need to take look at your notes. bu
